This past weekend, little K spent the weekend at San Diego with her family- Baba Shura and Dadushka included. Since little K is mesmorized by all animals...big and small.. the San Diego Zoo was definately the place to visit. Planning a trip with Baby always requires a focus on all details big and small.
My first thought at this trip was how are we going to keep the little K happy during this Car trip. This little one is very "high Maintenance" as Grandma Lola oftens says. She needs those around her to be constantly aware of her needs at any particular point in time...when she's not tired you need to entertain her with songs, books, movies, and puppet shows. When she's tired you need to sense it and automatically back off the stimulation so she can fall asleep. The tricky part is that she bounces from one state to the next without any forewarning and all of the sudden you have a crying baby who is upset at the fact that you haven't provided her with whatever it is she needs at the time...so you always have to be aware and two steps ahead. Although Littel K did have a few unhappy outbursts...overall it was a pleasant car trip.
The San Diego Zoo was planned for Saturday and of course Little K decided to take her nap when we got there. So she awoke to the sound of the jungle....monkeys, birds, giraffes, elephants, and yes..kangaroos were there to greet her and excite her. I'm always so amazed to see how alert she seems as she looks at the animals. When she sees an animal she likes she starts to scream, kick and point. And it delights me!! I love seeing her like this - happy, excited - it totally made my day. I have to say that the day wasn't easy...walking miles through a HUGE, HOT, CROWDED ZOO, with Little K at my hip but seeing her light up at the sight of those animals gave me the strength and desire to walk and be extremely happy about it.
I wish we were there another day to have her experience it again because her attention span is only a couple hours and there's just so much to see there...but there's always next time.
It was a great break, a successful trip and an exciting family adventure. I am so looking forward to all the other adventures we will have.
